Poorani Hospital

Out here in Pongalur, things are pretty quiet most of the time compared to the bigger cities. Poorani Hospital is just a part of the local landscape now. People know where we are without needing a big map. The building is sturdy and has been through many rainy seasons. We spend our mornings sweeping out the front area and getting the equipment ready for the day. It’s a small team of us here, and we mostly just get on with the tasks at hand. There is no big corporate office telling us what to do; we just look at what needs fixing or who needs help and get to it. Sometimes we have to wait for deliveries to come in from further away, which can be a bit of a headache. The waiting area has some old magazines that nobody really reads anymore, and the clock on the wall ticks a bit too loud when it is quiet. We have a small area in the back where we take our lunch breaks together. Usually, it is just home-cooked food that someone brought in. We don't have any fancy technology that talks to you, just the basics that work. If you walk past, you might see one of us standing at the door for a bit of air. It is just a regular hospital for regular people living their lives in this part of the world. We don't bother with much else besides the work and making sure the floors stay clean.
