M.M. Departmental Store

Up here on Maruthamalai Main Road, things stay pretty busy because of the university nearby. We are M.M. Departmental Store, located in the Vadavalli area, specifically near the Bharathiyar University Post. Since we are right on the main road, we get all sorts of people stopping in. We have the students coming by for pens or notebooks and snacks between their classes, and then the local families who live in the residential bits of Vadavalli. It is a lot of work keeping up with what everyone wants. Some days it feels like we are just constantly unpacking boxes of biscuits or refilling the bins with grain. Coimbatore has changed a lot over the years, and Vadavalli has grown so much too. Our shop is just a regular place where you can find what you need without a fuss. We don't have a big team or anything, just a few of us making sure the doors stay open and the items stay fresh on the racks. The afternoons are usually the quietest time, when the sun is high and everyone is indoors. That’s when we usually catch up on the cleaning or check what we need to order for next week. It’s not a complicated business. We just like being part of the local scene here in Coimbatore and seeing the same faces every day as they go about their business near the university. It keeps us quite busy most days of the week.
