Karthikeyan Store

Down in Telungapalayam, on Subramanium Udaiyar Street, you will find our small shop. Coimbatore has changed a lot, but this street still feels a bit old-fashioned. Karthikeyan Store is where we spend most of our waking hours. We open up quite early in the morning when the air is still a bit cool. People come in for their morning supplies, maybe some milk or some coffee powder to start their day. The shop is narrow, so if more than three people come in at once, it feels very crowded. We have jars of sweets on the front counter for the kids who walk by on their way to school. My hands are usually covered in some kind of flour or dust from weighing out the groceries. It is a physical job, lifting bags and reaching for things on the high shelves. We don't really have a back room, so everything we have is right there in the front for everyone to see. Sometimes the neighbors just pop their heads in to say hello without buying anything, and that is fine too. We have been here a long time, and the building shows its age with the peeling paint on the door frame. It is just a part of the neighborhood, nothing more and nothing less. We just keep the shelves full and the door open for whoever needs us in Telungapalayam.
