H. Chander Bhan Mitthan Lal is located at 3769, Bara Tooti, right in the heart of Sadar Bazar. If you know Sadar Bazar, you know how crowded and loud it gets every single day. Our shop is tucked into the Bara Tooti area, surrounded by hundreds of other traders. It’s a place with a lot of history. We’ve been here for many years, and the walls show it. There is barely enough room to move sometimes because of all the stock we keep piled up. We deal with all sorts of items, and the inventory is always changing. People come from all over to shop in this market. It’s a maze of narrow lanes and tall buildings. We spend our mornings unloading goods and our afternoons talking to customers who squeeze into the shop. It’s a very traditional way of doing business. We don't use computers for everything; a lot of it is still done with pen and paper in big ledgers. The fans hum overhead but they don't do much against the Delhi heat. We know all the neighbors and we look out for each other. It’s a tight-knit community despite the chaos. Working in Sadar Bazar isn't for everyone, but it’s what we know. We just keep the doors open and wait for the next person to walk in. It’s honest work in a busy place. We wouldn't know what to do if it were quiet.
