Out on Pannaipuram Main Road, things move a bit differently than in the city. Our place is at 9/1/13, right in P Renganathapuram. It is mostly about the spices for us. The smell of cardamom and pepper is always stuck in our clothes even after we go home. We aren't a big corporation. It is more like a group of us trying to get the local produce out to people who need it. The road gets very dusty in the summer. We spend a lot of time checking the bags for holes. Some of the farmers come by very early in the morning with their loads. We talk about the rain or the lack of it. It isn't always smooth sailing. Sometimes the prices drop and everyone gets a bit stressed out. But then things pick up again later on. We have some old scales that still work fine. No need for the high-tech stuff if the old way works well enough. Our building isn't anything special to look at. Just a sturdy place to keep the stock dry and safe. We sit on plastic chairs out front when the sun goes down. Someone usually brings snacks or tea. It’s a lot of manual work, lifting and moving heavy sacks. My back aches by Tuesday usually. We just do our bit. People know they can find us if they follow the main road. It's been this way for a long time now. We don't plan on changing much. Just spice and hard work.
