Marvel Rexine Center

Our shop, Marvel Rexine Center, is tucked inside the Vijayalakshmi Complex on 4th Street in Gandhipuram. If you know the area, you know how busy it gets with all the traffic and shoppers. We have been here for a long time, surrounded by rolls of rexine and various fabrics. The space is quite narrow and we have to stack the material high to make everything fit. It smells like plastic and adhesive most days but you stop noticing it after a few minutes. I spend my time measuring out lengths and cutting them for customers who need them for seats or bags. It’s a very physical job. My back usually aches by the evening but that’s just how it goes. We don't have a big staff, just a couple of us who know the inventory. People come to us because we’ve been in Gandhipuram forever. We don't bother with fancy displays or anything like that. The rolls are just leaned against the walls or sitting on the floor. Sometimes it takes a minute to find the exact color someone wants. The complex is old and the stairs are a bit steep. We open up early because the morning is the best time to get things organized before the crowd arrives. It’s a straightforward business and we don’t try to make it seem like more than it is. Just a place to get rexine. We have regulars who have been coming for years and we always try to find the rolls they asked for.
