Gandhiji Khadar Stores

Gandhiji Khadar Stores is situated at 27 Ismail Street. It is a plain and simple shop on a street that has seen a lot of years go by. We don't have a big storefront with flashing lights. It’s just an old door and a small sign. Inside, the shelves are filled with khadar and other fabrics. The smell of the cloth is the first thing you notice when you walk in. Ismail Street is not the widest road, so it can get a bit congested with bikes and pedestrians. We spend most of our time at number 27, measuring out fabric and chatting with the people who come in. It’s a slow-paced kind of place compared to the big malls. We have some old wooden counters that have been here since we started. Gandhiji Khadar Stores is more about the work than the appearance. We don't use a lot of fancy technology here. It's mostly pen and paper for our notes. The walls could probably use a new coat of paint, but we haven't gotten around to it yet. In the evenings, we pull down the shutters and head home. It’s a modest way to run a store, but it’s what we know. The light inside is a bit dim, but it’s enough to see what we are doing. We like the quiet rhythm of Ismail Street. It’s an honest spot where we do our business every day without any fuss.
