Arashan Knits

Our place, Arashan Knits, is located at 104/23 on 60 Feet Road in Kumarananthapuram. It’s a busy road with a lot of shops and constant traffic passing by. We have our knitting machines set up in the back and a small space in the front for people to see what we’re currently working on. The sound of the machines is pretty constant throughout the working day. It’s a rhythmic noise that you get used to after a while. We focus on knitted goods, mostly sweaters and similar items for local orders. We spend a lot of time checking the yarn for knots and making sure the machines are oiled properly. It’s physical work. Our hands are usually busy with something, whether it’s fixing a dropped stitch or packing up a finished order into bags. The lighting in the shop has to be very bright because we need to see all the small details in the fabric. It gets quite warm in here with the machines running, so we keep the doors open when the weather allows. We aren't a big factory; we’re just a local shop with a few dedicated workers. Most of us have been doing this kind of work for a long time. We don't have fancy marketing or a big showroom. People just know we’re here on 60 Feet Road. We take things as they come and try to finish the batches on time for our customers.
