Shree Balaji Steel Furniture

Our place, Shree Balaji Steel Furniture, is tucked away on Ravindranath Tagore Street. We are in Nehru Nagar, specifically on the road that runs behind CMS School in Ganapathy. It’s a bit of a quiet area compared to the main road. The workshop is usually full of metal frames and the sound of welding. We make all sorts of steel items like cupboards and racks. You can smell the paint sometimes when we are finishing a piece. It’s a hands-on business. We don’t have a fancy showroom with lights and carpets. The furniture just sits in the front area once it’s done. People from the neighborhood usually walk in after seeing our sign near the school. We do most of the heavy lifting ourselves. Moving steel around isn’t easy, so we stay pretty tired by the end of the shift. We started small and just kept going in this same spot. It’s convenient for the locals. Sometimes parents from the school stop by to see what we are making. We don't use a lot of fancy words to describe what we do. We just take the steel, cut it, join it, and make sure it stands straight. It’s a simple process but it takes time to do it right. We’re just regular people working with our hands. It gets loud and hot in here, but that is part of the job.
