We spend most of our time here at No 48 Lokmanya Street in RS Puram. It gets quite busy around here with the traffic and people moving about. We’ve been handling clothes for a while now. The sewing machines usually start early in the morning. Sometimes the thread gets tangled or a machine jams, and we have to stop and fix it before moving on. It's just the way it goes. Most days are about checking the fabric and making sure the cuts are right. We aren't doing anything fancy, just putting together shirts and other items that people need. Sometimes the floor gets covered in scraps of cloth by the afternoon. We try to keep it tidy but when a big order comes in, everything gets a bit messy. The sun hits the front of the shop in a certain way in the evening. Our staff usually takes a tea break around four. It’s a good time to stretch. We talk about the weekend or what’s for dinner. Working with garments means you're always looking at colors and patterns. You get used to the smell of new fabric after a while. Sometimes the delivery truck is late because of the narrow streets here. We just wait and get the boxes ready. It’s steady work. Nothing more, nothing less. We just keep our heads down and get the sewing done so the packs are ready for whoever is picking them up.
