Amaaan Saree Center

Amaaan Saree Center is right in the middle of the action at No. 54 Selvi Uppukinar Ane, on Big Bazaar Street. If you have ever been to this street, you know how crowded and lively it is. Our shop is tucked in among many others, and it is usually filled with stacks of sarees in every color you can imagine. We have big mattresses on the floor where we sit to show the fabrics to people who come in. There is always a lot of unfolding and folding going on, and the place is never perfectly tidy. The noise from the market outside is constant, with vendors shouting and bikes trying to squeeze through the narrow lanes. We keep a small fan going to move the air around, but it still gets quite warm when the shop is full of customers. We have been here at Amaaan Saree Center for quite some time now, and we know the other shopkeepers on the lane quite well. We often share tea from the guy who walks around with the big metal kettle. It is a traditional way of doing business, where everything is about the touch of the fabric and the chat we have with the folks who visit. We do not have any fancy displays or lights, just the sarees themselves piled high on the wooden shelves against the walls.
