Amrutha Sikharasai Rice Mill

You can find us over at 6-241 on Mattam Street in Rangampet. It’s a bit of a tight squeeze for the larger vehicles, but we make it work somehow. Amrutha Sikharasai Rice Mill is basically just a working shed where we spend our days processing whatever the local farmers bring in. It’s not the kind of place that looks impressive from the outside, but we stay busy enough. The machines are old and they require a lot of looking after to keep them from breaking down at the wrong time. We deal with a lot of heat in the summer, and the humidity doesn't help much when you're moving heavy sacks around. Most of the guys here have been working with rice for years, so we just know what needs to be done without talking about it much. Sometimes the rain makes things difficult because we have to keep everything dry, and the roof leaks a little in the far corner. We just put a bucket under it and keep moving. We don't have any fancy brochures or anything to show off. Usually, it’s just neighbors or people from the next village over who stop by. We have our tea breaks under the tree out front when things quiet down for a few minutes. It is a simple life, but the work is honest and it fills the day. We just try to get the bags filled and the trucks moved out safely.
