If you know the Bharatpur Road in Mathura, you probably know where Dholi Pyau is. That’s where we are, right near the Pathwari Mandir. You can usually hear the bells from the temple during the morning prayers while we are setting out the displays. Gola Paint And Rope Store has been sitting here for a while now. We keep a lot of heavy ropes stacked near the door and paint cans piled up in the back. It’s a bit of a crowded shop, if I’m being honest. There isn't much room to walk when we have a big delivery coming in. The dust from the road outside settles on everything, so we are always wiping down the lids of the paint tins. Mathura gets busy, especially during festival times, and the traffic on Bharatpur Road can be a real headache. We mostly spend our time talking to people about what color they need for their walls or showing them the different thicknesses of rope we have in stock. My hands are usually stained with some kind of pigment by the time lunch rolls around. We don't have any shiny signs or fancy carpets here. It’s just a regular store with concrete floors and old shelves that hold a lot of weight. We just open up, do the work, and close up when the sun goes down. It’s a decent way to spend the day. Usually, someone from the neighborhood stops by just to chat for a bit while we wait for the next customer to arrive.
