Our office is situated in Kavumbhagam, down in Chennai. Being in Tamil Nadu, we deal with a lot of heat and humidity, which means we have to keep the lab areas very well-regulated. The building is a simple structure that we’ve converted for our diagnostic work. It’s not a corporate skyscraper; it feels more like a local workplace where everyone knows each other. Inside, there are lots of machines and plastic containers for samples. We have to keep things very clean, so there’s always a faint smell of disinfectant in the air. The staff mostly wears white coats, but the atmosphere is pretty relaxed otherwise. We spend our hours looking at data or handling the logistics of getting tests done. The traffic around Kavumbhagam can be a real mess in the mornings, so most of us try to get in early to beat the rush. We don’t have a team of people writing fancy slogans for us. We just handle the diagnostic tasks as they come in. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to switch to the generator, which is just part of life here. We keep a stash of coffee in the breakroom and just get through the daily pile of work. It’s a honest living, and we just focus on making sure the results are typed up and sent out on time to the people waiting for them without any unnecessary delays.
