Promptekk Metal Alloys & Refining Corporation operates out of unit 35 in the S. I. D. C. O. Industrial Estate in Thirumazhisai. This is a real industrial zone, way out on the edge of the city. It’s dusty and loud, but that is where you have to be for metalwork and refining. Our unit is a big shed-like structure where we do all the heavy lifting. There is a lot of heat involved in what we do, so the place can get pretty intense during the day. We have been in this estate for quite some time now. We know the security guards at the gate and the guys running the tea stalls nearby. The work we do isn't pretty. It involves a lot of scrap, furnaces, and raw alloys. It is heavy, dirty work, but someone has to do it. We have a small office in the corner where we handle the billing and the phone calls, but most of us are out on the floor. We don't have any fancy signs or glossy brochures. People find us because they know we are here and they know we do the work. The trucks come in and out all day, carrying materials. It’s a tough environment, but there is a sense of accomplishment when we finish a big batch. We just keep the fires going and focus on the metal. That’s our daily life here.
