Our place is on Rajiv Gandhi Street over in Alapakkam, right at number three. It’s a quiet enough spot in Porur compared to the main roads. We spend a lot of time sitting at the benches here at Vishal Computers. Usually, there are a few machines opened up with parts lying around because someone brought something in that wasn't working right. The fans are always running to keep the dust off the boards, though it’s a constant battle. We started out small and we’ve pretty much stayed that way, which is fine by us. Customers usually find us by word of mouth or they live just a few streets away. It gets quite hot in the afternoons, so we keep the door halfway shut to stay cool. There isn't any fancy lobby or a receptionist greeting people. You just walk in and talk to whoever is free. Most of the time, that's me or one of the guys in the back. We have stacks of old monitors and cables in the corner that we really should sort through one day. Porur has grown a lot since we first opened the doors here. We see a lot more traffic on the street now, but inside the shop, it still feels the same as it did years ago. Just a bunch of tools, some software discs, and a lot of work to finish before the day ends. It is a simple way to earn a living.
