Parrys Confectionery Limited

Dare House is a big, impressive building right at Parrys Corner. It’s got that old colonial look to it, which stands out against all the chaos of NSC Bose Road. Being at P.B. No. 2040 means we are right in the heart of the trade area in Chennai. The noise outside is incredible. You have buses honking, people shouting, and the constant movement of the market. Inside, it’s a bit quieter, but not by much. We handle the candy and sweets from here. It’s a lot of administrative work, keeping track of sugar prices and shipping containers. The building has these high ceilings that help with the heat, but we still rely on the fans quite a bit. It’s an old place, so the floorboards sometimes creak. We don’t go in for modern office trends. It’s mostly heavy wooden desks and old filing cabinets. Everyone knows Parrys Corner, so we never have to give directions for long. The air is thick with the smell of the sea and the city exhaust. Sometimes someone brings in a batch of new boiled sweets to try, and that’s a good day. Most of the staff have been here for decades. There is a sense of loyalty that you don’t see much anymore. We just keep the sweets moving through the port and out to the shops. It’s a steady kind of life.
