Our office is on the ground floor of the Andhra Insurance Building on Thambu Chetty Street. The old number was 156, but now it is officially 323. If you know Chennai, you know how these streets are—full of history and very narrow. The building itself has been around for a long time, and we have been here at Katariya & Co. for a good stretch of it. We deal with a lot of paperwork and people coming in to settle accounts or ask about various supplies. It is not a fancy modern office with glass walls and carpets; it is more about heavy wooden desks and filing cabinets that have seen better days. The ceiling fans hum all day long to keep the humidity at bay. Being on the ground floor means we see everyone walking by on the sidewalk. Sometimes the traffic noise from the street is so loud we have to close the front door, but usually, we keep it open for the breeze. We aren't trying to impress anyone with the decor. We just focus on getting the entries right and making sure our clients get what they need on time. Thambu Chetty Street has a lot of businesses like ours, where the work is steady and the faces are familiar. It is a bit cramped with all the ledgers and samples, but we know where everything is. You learn to work in the space you have.
