Genetics

This is where the Dept. Of Genetics & Breeding is located, right inside the Madras Veterinary College. It’s a busy place with a lot of students and staff moving around the halls every day. We spend a lot of our time looking at data and working with animals or samples, depending on what the day calls for. The college has been here for a long time, and you can definitely feel that history in the buildings. Our specific area is dedicated to genetics, so there is always something going on with breeding programs or research. It isn’t the kind of place that’s super quiet; there is always someone asking a question or a machine hum somewhere. We have our labs and offices set up to handle the work, though things can get a bit cluttered with papers and equipment when a big project is running. The Madras Veterinary College is a big landmark, so most people don't have trouble finding us once they get through the main gates. We are just a group of people interested in how breeding works and trying to figure things out step by step. It’s not always glamorous work, and some days are just spent doing repetitive tasks, but it’s important for what the college does. We don't really do much in the way of public displays, we just stay busy with the technical side of things here in the department.
