First Neighbourhood Foundation

First Neighbourhood Foundation is tucked away at Ac 46, Ac Block, on 3Rd Street in Annanagar. This part of Annanagar is usually pretty busy with people going to work or school. We started this because we felt that people living on the same street didn't really know each other anymore. We wanted to bring back that feeling of a real neighborhood where people look out for one another. Our office is just a front room in one of the houses. It’s nothing fancy, just some chairs and a map of the local area on the wall. We spend a lot of time just walking around and talking to the shopkeepers and residents. We try to organize small things like clean-up days or just making sure the older folks have someone to check on them. We don't have a big budget, so we rely on people volunteering their time. Sometimes it’s hard to get people involved because everyone is so busy with their own lives. We don't have a professional team or any marketing materials. It’s just us trying to make our own street a better place to live. Some days we feel like we aren't making much progress, but then someone says thanks and it feels worth it. It’s slow, local work that doesn't get much attention, and that is fine by us. We just want a friendly street.
