Care Dental Hospital

Being right opposite Madhyamam in Chennai means we see a lot of action on the street. The hospital is just a regular building where we show up every morning. We usually start by checking the power and making sure the instruments are ready. Chennai is humid, so the air inside always feels a bit heavy until the fans have been going for a while. We have a few different rooms for patients. The tiles are white and they show every bit of dirt, so we are constantly cleaning. There’s a small break room in the back where we keep our tiffin boxes. Most of us have worked here for years and we know exactly which drawer holds what. The street noise is constant, with buses and bikes constantly zooming past towards the city center. Sometimes people come in just because they saw our sign from across the road. We don't have a lot of fancy art on the walls, just some old posters about teeth. The windows are a bit small, so we rely on the overhead lights a lot. It’s a simple setup, really. We spend our time filing papers, cleaning teeth, and talking to the people who live nearby. It’s just how things go here. We work through the heat and go home when the sun goes down, just like everyone else around this part of Chennai. Sometimes the evening breeze helps once we open the side door.
