Big Prints

Our shop is sitting at 196A on the Velacheri Main Road. We are pretty close to the Gandhi Road bus stop, so there’s a lot of foot traffic passing by the front door all day long. It’s a noisy spot because of the buses and the horns, but you get used to it after a week. Inside, it’s mostly taken up by the big machines that give the place its name. They take up a lot of room and make a steady thumping sound when they are running. The floor is concrete and has a few stains from ink spills that wouldn't come out. We don’t mind. We have a small counter where people drop off their files or pick up their orders. Sometimes the rolls of paper are stacked so high you can't see the back wall. It’s a busy environment and things can get a bit messy when we have a big deadline. We usually have a half-eaten lunch sitting on a corner of a desk somewhere. The lights are those long fluorescent tubes that flicker a bit when you first turn them on in the morning. People from around Velacheri pop in and out, usually in a hurry. We just keep the machines fed and the paper moving. It's a simple life here on the main road, just doing what we know and getting things done as they come in.
