We are over in Rail Nagar at Koyambedu, specifically at No R 8. It’s quite close to the Daniel Thomas School, so we hear the school bell ringing and the kids playing during their break times. Chennai can be very humid, so the air inside feels a bit different than the street outside. Our space is set up with the basic dental chairs and the tools we need for the day. It’s not a huge place, but it fits what we do. The neighborhood is fairly busy with people heading toward the market or the bus terminus. We usually open up early and sweep the front steps before the first person arrives. There is always some traffic noise from the main road filtering in. We have a few magazines on a small table for anyone waiting, but they are mostly old ones. The walls are painted a light color to keep it feeling clean. We spend a lot of time standing up and moving around the chairs. Some days it rains quite hard and we have to make sure the water doesn’t come in under the door. It’s a simple setup we have here. We’ve been in this part of Chennai for a good while now. Most people around here know where Rail Nagar is. We just focus on the work at hand and go home when the sun sets, usually feeling tired but ready to come back the next day.
