Altech Engineering

We have been at this spot on Mamallapuram Salai for quite a while now. It is a busy road in Chengalpattu, especially with all the traffic heading towards the coast. Our shop, Altech Engineering, is basically a place where things get done. You will usually find a few of us here covered in grease or dust because there is always something to weld or fix. The fans are usually running full speed but it still gets hot in the afternoons. Most days start early with a cup of tea from the stall nearby. We handle a lot of different metal parts and machinery here. Sometimes people bring in small bits of iron that need a quick fix, and other days we are working on larger projects that take up half the floor space. It is not a fancy office with air conditioning. It is just a workshop with tools scattered on the benches and bits of scrap metal in the corners. We know the neighbors pretty well since we have been at number 74 for years. It gets noisy when the grinders are going, so sometimes we have to shout to be heard over the machines. It is just honest work. We don't spend much time on the computer or making things look pretty for photos. If the job is done right, that is what matters to us at the end of the day. We just keep our heads down and get through the list of tasks without much fuss. There is always a pile of work waiting.
