Vijay Dairy

We are right on the Main Road in Akshya Nagar, Sector 49. Number 62 isn't hard to find if you’re looking for the milk bags. It gets very crowded around 7 AM. People are on their way to work or taking kids to school and they need their milk and bread. We try to move fast but sometimes there's a line. The fridges are old and they make a lot of noise, but they keep everything cold. Jalahalli is a busy area these days. I remember when there were fewer houses here. Now it's all buildings. We sell a lot of curd in the summers. It feels like we can't keep enough in stock. The floor is concrete and we wash it down every afternoon when things quiet down. We don't have a big team, just a couple of us working the counter. We take turns going for lunch in the back room. It’s mostly just shelves with tins and packets. Nothing fancy or decorated. We have a small TV in the corner that we watch when business is slow. Sometimes the neighbors come in just to chat for a bit. We don't mind. It’s good to have company. By the time evening comes, the crates are empty and we wait for the night delivery. It’s a routine we’ve had for years now. We keep the lights on until late for those coming home from work. It is just a regular life in Akshya Nagar.
