Ashoka Furniture Udyog

Our workshop is at 304 in Industrial Area Phase 2. If you walk in, the first thing you will notice is the smell of wood and sawdust. It gets everywhere, even in our hair and clothes. We have been making furniture here for a good amount of time. It is a hands-on kind of job. We spend the day moving planks around, sanding down rough edges, and putting pieces together. There is a lot of banging from hammers and the high whine of the saws. It is not the quietest place to work, but we are used to it. We have some old tools that still work better than the new ones we bought last year. Sometimes a piece of wood has a knot in it that ruins the plan, so we have to start over. That is just how it goes with natural materials. The space is a bit crowded with half-finished chairs and tables waiting for their legs. We don't have a fancy showroom with bright lights. Most people just come right into the back where the work happens. We keep a ledger on a wooden bench to track everything. It is just us doing what we know how to do. The floor is covered in shavings by five o'clock. We sweep up, lock the heavy doors, and come back to do it again the next day.
