Shakti Motors

Shakti Motors is right on Hari Singh Nalwa Street in Karol Bagh. If you know this area you know how many shops are packed into every corner. We are at 1670/35 and it’s always a bit of a mess with parts and tools lying around. Our hands are usually covered in grease by ten in the morning. We deal with engines and whatever else stops working under the hood of a car. It’s loud because of the traffic and the sound of hammers or drills from the other shops nearby. We’ve been in this street for a long time and seen many people come and go. The shop itself is dark inside even with the lights on because of all the metal and heavy parts stacked up on the shelves. We don't have a waiting room with a sofa or anything. People usually just stand around or go get a tea while we look at their machines. Sometimes a part is hard to find and we have to call around the whole market to see who has it in stock. It’s a lot of running back and forth. We don't use computers much for the work, just our eyes and years of doing the same things over and over. It’s a tough way to earn but it’s what we know how to do best. By the time we close the shutter we are usually quite tired and ready for a hot meal.
