We’ve been handling onions for a long time now. Most people know us because we’re right there in the Uco Bank Building on Parliament Street. If you go up to the third floor, that is where you will find our office. It’s a busy spot with all the bank traffic downstairs, but it works for what we do. Dealing with onions isn't exactly fancy work, but it is what we know. My father started this business years ago, and we just keep it going every single day. Some days are much busier than others depending on the harvest and how the market prices are moving. We spend a lot of our time on the phone talking to different farmers and then calling up the buyers. It involves a lot of logistics and timing. Our office isn't very huge, just enough space for the paperwork and the few of us who work here. We try to keep things simple and avoid all that corporate stuff. Usually, you can smell the coffee mixed with the usual paper and old building smell when you walk in. We don’t really do any advertising. People just find us through word of mouth or they see the sign when they are heading to the bank for their own business. It is a very straightforward way to earn a living. We just make sure the onions get from one place to another without too much trouble. Sometimes the elevators are slow, so we just take the stairs to save time.
