Prithvi Mansion is one of those old buildings on Asaf Ali Road that has seen a lot of history. Our office is at 4/8. Alembic Glass Industries Ltd. has been around for a long time, and you can kind of tell by the way the floorboards creak. Dealing with glass, mostly industrial stuff, means there’s always talk about specs and shipping schedules. It’s not a glamorous job. Dust is everywhere and the phones never seem to stop ringing. Some guys have worked here for twenty years, and they know where every single file is hidden. When the tea lady comes by twice a day, that’s usually when we take a real break. Asaf Ali Road stays loud, so the sound of horns and shouting outside is just background noise to us now. Glass-walled offices like in movies aren't found here, even though we are a glass company. Metal desks and stacks of catalogs fill the space instead. Orders on hand get our full attention. If a shipment gets delayed, the whole day might be spent on the phone fixing it. That’s just part of the business. Trying to be something we’re not isn't for us. We’re just a bunch of people making sure the glass gets to where it’s supposed to go. It’s honest work, and we’ve been doing it a long while now. It fits us well.
