First Step Playschool

First Step is located in Shakti Vihar Colony, over in the Saraidhela area of Dhanbad, near Kolakusma. It’s a playschool, so as you can imagine, it gets pretty loud with all the little kids running around. The building is tucked away in the colony, so it’s not right on the main road. We have a lot of colorful things on the walls because that's what kids like. There are toys scattered in the corners and small chairs that look tiny to adults. The mornings start with parents dropping off their toddlers, and there is usually a bit of crying or running around. We spend a lot of time just keeping an eye on them. The yard has some slides and things, though they’ve seen a lot of use over the years. Dhanbad can be quite dusty, so we are always dusting the shelves and the floor. It’s a small operation, mostly just a few of us looking after the children and making sure they have something to do. We don't have any big speeches about our methods; we just play and learn some basics. The neighborhood is quiet except for us. Sometimes we have a little event where parents come in, but mostly it's just the daily routine. We’ve been in Shakti Vihar for a while now and most people nearby know the sound of our school bell. It’s a simple, honest little place for kids to start out. We just try to keep things safe and fun for everyone.
