Operating Cheers Ice Factory out on Naya Road in Kutru is a lot of hard work. We are located in Bokaro Steel City, right near the LIC office. It is a noisy place because the machines that make the ice are quite large and they run almost all the time. Making ice isn't complicated but you have to stay on top of it. We deal with big blocks mostly. People come to us when they have a big event or if they run a business that needs to keep things cold. The floor is usually a bit wet because of the nature of the work. We wear heavy boots most of the day. Being near the LIC office helps people find us easily enough. Naya Road can get pretty dusty, so we are always cleaning the loading area. The trucks come in early in the morning to pick up their orders. We have to be here before the sun comes up to get everything ready for them. It’s a physical job, moving those heavy blocks around. We don't have a fancy waiting room or anything like that since most people are just here to load up and go. The machinery takes up most of the space inside the building. It gets very cold inside where the ice is stored, which is a nice break from the Bokaro heat outside. We just keep our heads down and do the work. It is a long day every day, but we are used to the rhythm of the factory.
