You can hear the machines thumping away if you walk down the lane in New Hema Nagar. The space is usually filled with stacks of raw paper and finished plates ready to be packed. It gets quite hot and dusty in there, especially during the summer months. We don’t have a fancy showroom. If someone wants to buy from us, they just come to the unit and see what we have in stock. Uppal is a growing place, and there’s always a demand for disposable plates for small functions or tiffin centers. We started this small and have just kept it going year after year. It’s a lot of repetitive work, feeding the paper into the machines and counting the plates into bundles. We don’t spend money on advertising or big signs. Most of our customers are locals who have been buying from us for a long time. It’s a very hands-on business, and our hands are usually a bit dirty from the ink or the paper dust by the end of the day. We just stay focused on getting the orders ready on time and making sure the quality is okay for the price we charge without any big talk.
