The Heritage School

You can find us in Bithika Pally, over in the Pucca area of Rampurhat. This part of Birbhum is quite busy. The Heritage School is located in a spot where you can hear the local sounds of the neighborhood. There are houses all around us. We are part of the local fabric here. Many of us who work here live just a few streets away. We walk to school most days. The mornings are usually spent checking the registers and making sure the chalk is stocked up. We do not have those electronic boards, just the regular kind. The classrooms are filled with the sound of kids reciting their lessons. It can get quite loud, but we are used to it. Sometimes the local temple has a festival and the music carries over to our yard. We just work around it. The weather in Birbhum can be tough, either very dry or very wet. We spend a lot of time cleaning up after the rain. Our staff room is a place where we drink tea and complain about the heat or the price of vegetables. It is a very normal, local school. We do not put on any airs. We just want the kids to pass their exams and do okay for themselves. It is a small operation, but it keeps us busy from morning till late afternoon.
