Lokepara High School

Our school is located in the village of Lokepara, which is part of the Kuliara post office area in Birbhum. It’s a rural setting, so things move a bit slower here than they do in the big cities. The school building is quite old and has seen many generations of students pass through its doors. We have a large open area where the students gather for their morning prayers. You can see the fields from the upper windows of the classrooms. It’s a peaceful place to study, though it gets very hot in the summer months. Most of our students come from the surrounding farms and small villages. They are hard-working kids who often have chores to do at home after school finishes. The teachers here are a dedicated bunch, but they are also very plain-spoken. We don't use much technology; it’s mostly just chalk and talk. We have a small library with some old books that the students can borrow. The benches in the classrooms are made of heavy wood and have been there for decades. We deal with the usual problems like goats wandering onto the school grounds or the roof needing repairs after a storm. It’s just a typical village high school. We aren't trying to impress anyone. We’re just here to provide a basic education to the children of Birbhum in our own way, year after year.
