Banerjee Brothers Stores

Banerjee Brothers Stores is in a village called Syndicate, which is under the Budbud post office. We are right here in East Burdwan. It is a family thing, me and my brother running the place. We took it over from our elders. The shop has an old smell of spices and jute bags. It’s not a modern place by any means. We still use an old iron scale for some things, even though we have a digital one now. The road through Syndicate can get very muddy when it rains, so we have to keep a mop handy. Budbud is a decent place to live, not too fast and not too slow. We open up early and stay late. Sometimes we just sit on the bench outside and talk to the farmers. They tell us about the crops and we tell them what’s new in the market. The walls are covered with old calendars that we never took down. It is a bit cluttered, but we know where the tea leaves are and where the oil is kept. We don’t have any big plans to expand. We just want to keep the store going like it has been for years. It’s a steady life and we like the people here. My brother usually handles the heavy lifting while I take care of the talking. It is a system that has worked for years and we don't want to change it.
