We are located out in Mallarpur, which is in the Birbhum district of West Bengal. It’s a bit of a trek to get here if you are coming from the city. We work under the name Associated Transrail Atructures Ltd. Our focus is on the steel structures used for rail and transport lines. It’s heavy work and involves a lot of metal. The yard here is usually full of materials waiting to be moved. Being in a place like Mallarpur means things move at a different pace than the big cities. We like it that way. There is a lot of open space and the air feels better. We spend our days coordinating deliveries and checking the assembly of the transrail parts. It is definitely not glamorous work. We wear heavy boots and get our hands dirty. The office part is just a small building near the main gate. We have some old desks and a computer that has seen better days. But it gets the job done for us. Associated Transrail Atructures Ltd is part of the landscape here now. We employ local people from around Birbhum. It’s important to us that we keep things running smoothly so everyone stays busy. Sometimes the monsoon rains slow us down, but we catch up. We don't have a big mission statement. We just build the structures that help the trains keep moving through the state. It is practical work for practical people. We take our tea breaks together and then get back to the steel.
