Laxmi Paints is over at 64, Chadchan, in the Halahalli area. It’s a quiet corner compared to the bigger cities, but we stay occupied. The shop is mostly filled with cans of all sizes, from the tiny ones for touch-ups to the big buckets for whole houses. I’ve been working here for a while, and you get used to the smell of the thinners and the gloss paint. Chadchan is the kind of place where news travels fast, so we mostly see the same faces. We don't really do much advertising; the sign outside is enough for most people to find us. Halahalli is a nice enough place to work, even if it gets a bit lonely on rainy days when nobody wants to paint anything. I spend a lot of time organizing the shelves because things tend to get mixed up when we are busy. We have those old wooden counters that have seen a lot of use over the years. Sometimes the color mixing machine is a bit loud, but it gets the job done. We don't have a big team, usually just one or two of us here to help carry the heavy cans to people’s cars or carts. It’s not a glamorous business, and our clothes usually have a few spots of white or yellow on them. We just keep the doors open and see who comes in. There is an old radio in the back that we keep on for some background noise during the day.
