Gupta Sweets & Chat

We are at 116 Cuttack Road, right near the Budheswari Temple in the Budheshwari Colony area. Gupta Sweets & Chat is a family run thing and we’ve been behind this counter for a long time. Being so close to the temple means we get a lot of people coming in after their prayers. The bells from the temple are a sound we hear all day long. We make the sweets in the back and the chat is done right up front where people can see it. It gets quite crowded in the evenings when everyone is out for a walk and wants a snack. The glass display cases are always needing a wipe because kids put their hands on them to look at the colorful sweets. It’s a noisy spot with the traffic from Cuttack Road always rushing by. We have a few small stools for people to sit on but most just stand around and talk while they eat. My father started this and now we just keep it going the same way he did. We don’t use any machines for the mixing, we still do it all by hand because that’s how we learned. It makes for long days and sore arms but it’s what we do. We like the regulars who come in every day just to chat for a minute while they wait for their food. It’s just a normal little shop.
