Alphabets

Being right in front of the Bata showroom at Kalpana Square means we see a lot of people every day. Alphabets has been sitting here in the Kalpana area for a good while, and the noise from the square is something you just get used to after a week or so. Our shop on Plot No. 2054 is usually full of the smell of ink and the sound of machines running in the back. It’s a small place, really, packed with samples and paper offcuts everywhere. When the traffic gets bad outside, we usually just keep our heads down and work on whatever project is currently on the table. We get a lot of people dropping in because they saw the sign while walking past the shoe store across the street. Sometimes we’re so busy we don’t even notice the time passing until the sun starts going down over the square. We have some old chairs for people to sit on while they wait, though they’ve seen better days and are a bit wobbly. The floor is rarely perfectly clean because there’s always something being cut, glued, or printed. We’ve had the same neighbors for years and we all look out for each other when things get hectic. It’s just a regular shop where we try to get the letters and designs looking right. Nothing too complicated, just honest work done in the middle of a very busy part of town.
