Sundar Collection

This shop is sitting right in the Main Market Jahagirbad area of Bhopal. It is a bit different from the grocery spots nearby because we deal mostly in clothes and fabrics. When you walk in, you’ll see piles of different materials and ready-made pieces stacked up on the tables. We spend a lot of time folding things back up after someone has looked through them. The floor is usually a bit cluttered with bags of new stock that just came in from the suppliers. We don't really have a big fancy display, just what we can fit in the front window to show what’s available. People come in from the Jahagirabad streets to find something for a wedding or just a new shirt for work. Sometimes they spend a long time picking out a color, and we just wait or help them find a different size in the back room. The back room is small and crowded with boxes, but it’s where we keep the extra stock. It’s a lot of work keeping the dust off the fabrics because the market outside is so busy and dirty. We have a couple of stools for people to sit on if they’re tired from walking. Usually, it’s just the sound of the ceiling fan and the noise from the street coming through the door. It’s a basic way to earn a living, just selling clothes to the locals and making sure we have enough variety on the shelves.
