Regional College Canteen

The canteen is right inside the Regional College campus at Shamla Hills. Bhopal is beautiful from up here, especially when the weather is clear. We spend a lot of time in the kitchen area. It gets quite hot when the stoves are going and the students start coming in for their breaks. The tables are old, maybe they need a bit of paint, but they do the job. We see a lot of the same students every day. They are usually in a hurry or complaining about their exams. It’s a loud place during lunch hours. Plates clattering and people shouting orders. We try to keep up with the rush. Shamla Hills is a nice quiet area otherwise, lots of trees around the college. The canteen is the main spot for people to hang out between classes. We wake up early to get the supplies brought in. Sometimes the delivery truck struggles with the hills. We keep the menu simple because that’s what works best here. You get to know what everyone likes after a while. One student wants extra salt, another wants no onions. It’s just us working here, making sure there’s enough for everyone. Regional College Canteen is just a part of the daily routine for anyone on campus. It’s a lot of hard work but it keeps us busy. We mostly just keep our heads down and cook.
