Vijay Traders

Vijay Traders is located at number 80 in Indra Market, which is right on Station Road. Being near the station means there is a constant flow of people, and the noise of the rickshaws is something we hear from morning till night. The shop itself is a straightforward place. We have shelves lining the walls and a heavy wooden desk where we keep our ledgers. We don't use much technology here, preferring to write things down by hand in our books. It feels more reliable that way to us. The market gets very busy on the weekends, so we usually have to be extra quick on our feet. On slower days, we might stand out front for a bit and talk to the other shopkeepers about the weather or how the local teams are doing. We aren't trying to be the biggest traders in the city; we just want to do a good job and keep things moving. The building is a bit older, and sometimes the ceiling leaks a little when the monsoon is particularly heavy, but we’ve learned exactly where to put the buckets so nothing gets ruined. It’s just part of being on Station Road. We open up early, usually around the time the first major trains arrive, and stay until the evening rush starts to fade. It’s an honest way to spend the day, and we’ve been doing it this way for quite some time now without many complaints.
