About Sapthsathi Organic Agriculture Project – Agriculture & Farming in Bhilwara
We’ve been here at Ramdwara Market 20 for quite a while now. It gets pretty loud early in the morning when the trucks come in, but that is just part of how things work around here. The Sapthsathi Organic Agriculture Project started because we wanted to do things a bit differently with the land. It isn’t always easy, and some days the weather doesn’t help us at all. We spend a lot of time checking on the crops and making sure the soil is okay. People often walk past our spot and stop to ask what we are doing with all those piles of natural compost. It’s a lot of manual labor, really. My hands are usually dirty by nine AM. We don't have a big fancy office or anything like that. Just a simple place where we keep our tools and talk to the local farmers who come by. Sometimes we sit on the wooden bench outside and just watch the market traffic go by while we drink tea. It’s a slow process, growing things without all those chemicals. You have to be patient. We make mistakes sometimes, maybe planting a bit too early or too late, but we learn. It is just us here, trying to make the agriculture project work in this little corner of the market. The building isn't much to look at, but it does the job for what we need. We just keep at it every single day.
