Sai Baba Dal Mills

Sai Baba Dal Mills is out on Plot No-P-24 in the industrial estate along Pur Road. It’s not the kind of place you come for a nice walk because there are trucks moving in and out all day long and the air is full of that dry smell from the pulses. We’ve been running the mill here for years and the machinery is old but it works just as good as the new stuff if you treat it right. The sound inside the building is pretty loud when the grinders are going so we end up doing a lot of shouting just to hear each other. We get loads of raw dal coming in on big flatbed trucks and we spend our time sorting and cleaning it all. It’s dusty work and by the end of the shift everyone has a layer of fine powder on their clothes and hair. The industrial estate gets really hot in the summer because of all the metal roofs but we have a couple of big fans that keep the air moving a little bit. We don't have a showroom or anything like that since most of our stuff goes out in big sacks to the markets. You can see the piles of bags stacked up near the loading dock waiting for the next transport. Pur Road is always busy with people heading into the city but we stay back here and just keep the machines running.
