Rasoi Ka Zayka

We are tucked away in Shastri Nagar, right across from the Gurunanak Marriage Hall. It’s an interesting spot because when there is a wedding, the whole street gets blocked with cars and music. Rasoi Ka Zayka is where we spend our days cooking. It’s not like those big restaurants with uniforms. We wear what’s comfortable and focus on the stove. The kitchen gets hot, especially in the summer months, but that’s part of the job. We have Vardhman Tent House nearby too, so there is always someone moving poles or fabric around. My hands are usually stained with turmeric or oil. We don't have a huge menu, just the stuff we know how to make well. Some days the smell of the spices carries all the way down to Sindhu Nagar. We get a lot of people stopping by after they finish work at the offices nearby. It’s a simple setup with a few tables that have seen better days. I remember when we first started, we only had one burner and a few pots. Now we have a bit more, but the way we cook hasn't changed much. We just keep our heads down and get the orders ready. It’s a lot of chopping and stirring, but it feels good when the plates come back empty. We don't worry about being fancy here or anything like that, we just keep the flame going all day long.
