Ghoomer The Dance School

Ghoomer The Dance School is a small place located in Bapu Nagar. We don't have a big fancy studio with mirrors on every single wall, but we have enough space to move. I started this because I wanted a spot in the neighborhood where people could come and learn. Bapu Nagar is a nice area and most of the people who come here are locals. We focus on traditional styles, especially Ghoomer, which is where the name comes from. The sound of the music usually spills out onto the street during our afternoon sessions. It’s not a corporate school with levels and certificates for every little thing. It’s more about the practice and the rhythm. We have kids coming in after school and some adults who join in the evenings. The floor is a bit worn from all the dancing, but that’s a good sign to us. We don't spend money on big posters or radio ads. Most people find us because they hear the music or see the sign when they are walking through Bapu Nagar. It’s a very simple setup. Just a few fans to keep the air moving and a good sound system for the tracks. We spend our days teaching steps and counting beats. It’s a lot of physical work, but it’s what we do. If you’re in the neighborhood, you can usually find us by the sound of the drums.
