Down on Ramdwara Road, we handle a lot of watches every day. It is a small place but it stays busy enough to keep me on my feet. Most people come in for a simple battery change because their favorite watch stopped ticking this morning. We also do a lot of straps, leather ones and metal ones too, though the leather ones tend to wear out much faster in this heat. There is always a pile of old watches sitting on the bench waiting for me to find parts for them. Sometimes a tiny spring is broken or water got inside the glass after a rainstorm. It takes a really steady hand to work on those tiny gears and I’m not as young as I used to be. I have been doing this for years now right here on Ramdwara Road. It is a good spot with lots of people walking by to the market. We don’t have those new smartwatches much, mostly just the regular analog ones that people still like to wear. If someone brings in an old clock from their wall at home, I will take a look at that too. It can get quite noisy with all the ticking when it is quiet in the shop at night. The lighting isn't the best in the back corner where the tools are, but I know where everything is. It’s a simple trade. People just want to know the time.
