Akola Hand Print

Akola Hand Print is located right behind the Jawahar Nagar Police Station here in Akola. It is a bit of a hidden spot, tucked away on the street behind the station, but it is where we do all our work. The air around here usually smells like dyes and wet fabric because we are constantly working on new prints. We have large wooden blocks and long tables where we lay out the cloth. It is a very manual process, and our hands are usually stained with various colors by the time evening rolls around. The space is filled with drying racks and stacks of finished material. It is not a modern factory at all; everything is done by hand, the way people in Akola have done it for a long time. The police station being so close makes it easy to give people directions, even if the road gets a bit muddy when it rains. We have a few local workers who have been with us for years, and we just go through the daily routine of mixing colors and stamping patterns. There is not a lot of quiet time because of the constant movement and the noise from the nearby streets. We do not have a fancy showroom or anything like that. If you come by, you will just see us working in the back. It is hard work on the back and shoulders, but it is what we do to get by.
