Balchandra Iron & Steel

Our shop is at 17/H in the light industrial area. It’s a corner of the main market, and we’re quite close to the bus stand, which makes it easy for people to find us if they’re coming from out of town. The shop is filled with different kinds of iron and steel pieces, stacked up high along the walls. It’s a heavy business, and we spend a lot of our day loading and unloading stuff from the backs of trucks that pull up. The floor is solid concrete, but it’s got plenty of cracks and marks from where heavy bars have been dropped over the years. We have a small desk where we keep the ledger and the phone, and it’s usually covered in a thin layer of iron filings. The air has a metallic tang to it, which you stop noticing after the first hour of being here. We don't have any fancy signs or decorations, just the name of the place painted on the front shutter. Most of the people we deal with are regulars who know where we are and what we do. When the sun goes down, the market gets a bit quieter, but we’re usually still inside finishing up the last of the orders for the day. It’s tough work that leaves your hands sore and your back tired, but it’s what we know. We just stay here in the light industrial area and keep the business moving one day at a time.
