We work out of office number 50 in the Mahuva Marketing Yard. If you’ve ever been to the yard, you know how loud and busy it gets during the peak season. There are trucks everywhere and people shouting about prices. We handle exports, mostly dealing with the crops that come through this area. It’s a lot of paperwork and making sure the quality is right before things get loaded up. My family has been in the trading business for a long time. We don't have a big fancy office with air conditioning. It’s just a desk, some chairs, and a lot of samples of onions or whatever else is in season. Mahuva is famous for certain things and we try to make sure those goods get to where they need to go. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit outside and wait. It’s not always easy work. You have to watch the market every single hour or you lose money. We have a few guys who help with the loading and the sorting. They’ve been with us for years. We don't really have a big philosophy or anything. We just buy, sort, and send things out. It’s a lot of phone calls and checking weights on the scales. Sometimes it’s stressful when the shipments are delayed, but that is just part of the trade. We stay busy and keep our heads down. It’s a simple life in the yard for us.
